From Mechanical Engineer to Entrepreneur

Johannes receiving the Entrepreneurship Certificate at the RUB Makerspace.

We are very pleased to announce that Johannes Maharam has become the first Master's student in Mechanical Engineering to receive the Entrepreneurship Certificate of Ruhr University Bochum. By successfully completing the module "Technology Entrepreneurship" at the Chair of Entrepreneurship and Innovative Business Models, Johannes finished the third and final required module for the certificate. With this achievement, he sets a strong example for entrepreneurial thinking in an engineering context.

An important part of his journey was participating in the MittelstandsMAKERTHON of the University Alliance Ruhr, hosted at the RUB Makerspace at MARK 51°7. During the event, Johannes worked on the challenge of the bike company Parax, demonstrating his innovation and implementation skills. In the winter semester 2025/26, the Makerthon was offered as an optional component of the module "Technology Entrepreneurship", impressively combining technological expertise with entrepreneurial practice.

We hope that Johannes is just one of the first of many – and that more students from the Master’s program in Mechanical Engineering as well as other faculties will take the step and earn their Entrepreneurship Certificate. Congratulations, Johannes!
